So base plate is gonna be one of five main parts that you're gonna need to set your truck up to flat tow. Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit Installation - 2017 GMC Sierra 1500- Video

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 and we're gonna be taking a look at, I'm gonna show you how to install the Roadmaster baseplate. Your five main components in order to flat tow your vehicle are going to be your tow bar, which is the direct connection between the motor home and your vehicle, the baseplate, which is going to be your physical connection to your vehicle, your diode wiring, which is going to give you your lighting signals at the back of your towed vehicle, the supplemental braking system, which helps to stop the vehicle behind the motor home so the motor home doesn't have to do all the work, and then finally, your safety cables. These are going to come into play in an unlikely disconnect. These will hold onto the vehicle so that you can come to a safe and slow stop. Adding a baseplate to the front of your GMC Sierra 1500 is going to allow you to flat tow it behind your motor home. more

Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit Installation - 2016 GMC Terrain- Video

Well neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at installing the Roadmaster Base Plate on a 2016 GMC Terrain. Now in flat towing your Terrain, there's gonna be five main components required for flat towing and the first one's gonna be a base plate, and that's gonna be the attachment point for all of your components, and it's attached to the frame of the vehicle, creating a nice sturdy mounting point. Going along with that, you have safety chains, which are in case of a disconnect, it's gonna hold everything together and that way the car's not getting disconnected. Now between your base plate and the hitch on the RV, you are gonna have your tow bar and that is simply that connection point that allows it to pivot as you're going down the road. Now you're also gonna have a supplemental braking system and that way when you apply the brakes on the RV, it's gonna transmit to the towed vehicle, bringing it to a slow or stop, and also you have a breakaway cable with that, and that way in case of a catastrophic disconnect, it's gonna pull this switch here, applying the brakes on the vehicle, bringing it to a stop. That way it's not rolling down the highway. more

You can hook any Blue Ox tow bar up to the arms here that go on the end of your base plate, and we'll go ahead and show you that real quick here. So we'll pull the pin out, slide that apart, and we can pull the end back there. This arm is removable so when you're not flat towing you can simply just pull the pin and twist it to slide that out of there. Connor: Hey everybody, how's it going Connor here today at etrailer.com, we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit here for our 2012 GMC Terrain. So this is what our base plate is going to look like while it's installed on our vehicle here. As you can see, most of everything is going to be behind the scenes here, behind our bumper fascia. The only thing we're going to be able to see really sticking out is our connection points for our safety chains as well as the rods which hold our electrical connector to the base plate kit. So what I really like about this Blue Ox Base Plate Kit here in particular, is the removable arm design. And essentially what this means is, you can see these silver lugs here on either side which connect to our tow bar, these are actually removable because this base plate kit has a removable arm design.So basically, when we're not towing our vehicle behind our motor home, we can remove these arms here for a very finished, clean install. more

Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com, and today you're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit on our 2016 GMC Sierra 1500.Now, our Roadmaster Base Plate is going to allow us to hook up a tow bar, so we can safely and securely flat tow our Sierra down the road. Keep in mind this is only going to be one component for a complete safe flat-tow setup for your Sierra. For our Sierra, we're going to need a base plate, a tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, and a braking system, and specifically for our GMC Sierra, I do recommend getting a better disconnect because it is going to make it easier rather than disconnecting the battery.What I really like about our base plate that it has a really clean appearance to it. It's going to go right where our tow hooks go, so you can see that we're not going to have to change too much to the front of our Sierra, and whenever we're not towing it, we actually have the option of removing the arm. We can remove the clip from the pin. Then we can pull out the pin and then the whole arm is going to come out giving a lot more of a clean appearance, almost just like the tow hook inaudible 00:01:04.The Roadmaster name Direct-Connect comes from the fact that our tow bar is going to hook directly to our base plate. more

Today on our 2017 GMC Acadia Limited, we're going to be installing Roadmaster's EZ crossbar-style base plate kit. As far as your complete flat tow setup, you're going to need your base plate, your wiring kit, your braking system, and your tow bars. In the event your tow bar doesn't come with safety cables, you'll need to get some of those as well.This is what our base plate looks like when it's fully installed. It has connection points to attach any Roadmaster tow bars, as well as a place to hook your safety chain cables. When you're not using it, these can be rotated and pulled out, and you can also take your safety chain cables off if you'd like, as well, and the only thing you'd really be able to see is your wiring. To complete our flat tow set up on our 2018 GMC Acadia, we used Roadmaster's EZ5 base plate kit, Roadmaster's diode wiring kit, SMI's stay and play duo supplemental braking system, and DEMCO dominator tow bars.This base plate's going to allow you to connect your vehicle to your RV with some tow bars. This way you can pull it behind you without having to worry about dolly or trailer towing. The base plate has locations to hook up safety chains, locations to connect your seven pole connector, your breakaway switch as well as your tow bars. The tow bar's going to be hidden behind your front fascia, so that way you don't have to worry about too much showing. more

Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit Installation - 2012 GMC Terrain- Video

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2012 GMC Terrain, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how install the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit with removable arms, part number 523163-1. Here's what our Roadmaster Base Plate is going to look like. It's going to allow us to safely hook up our Terrain to our motor home so we can flat tow down the road. I do want to mention that our electrical connector, as well as our breakaway switch, are not included in the kit, but they are some necessary components in order to safely flat tow our Terrain. We'll give you a list of all the components you will need later on in the video. What's really nice about our Roadmaster Base Plate is that when we're not towing, we can actually remove these arms here, just twist them and they'll come out and we'll have a more hidden look, to where it's not going to obtrusive sticking out of the front.The removable arms are going to have an attachment point made specifically for the crossbar style. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Installation - 2007 GMC Sierra New Body- Video

Speaker 1: Today on our 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox baseplate kit, part number BX1674. This is what our baseplate looks like installed, it's gonna be used for this vehicle's gonna be towed behind an RV. As you can see it's gonna fit in the existing hole in your bumper where your tow hooks were.It's also gonna have safety chain loops here that's gonna come through the existing hole next to your baseplate on each side of the vehicle. As you can see we've got a nice sized hole, it's gonna give you plenty of room for different sized safety chain hooks. It also is gonna come with removable arms, simply pull the pin, twist, and slide out.First thing we're gonna to do begin out installation is we want to remove our tow hook from the driver and passenger side. In order to do that you're gonna have two bolts here, they're gonna be 18 millimeter and you're gonna have one nut inside. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 GMC Sierra 2500, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster MS Base Plate Kit with Fixed Arms, part number RM-3180-2. So, here's what our base plate looks like once we have it installed. Now, it's going to give us a secure platform so we can flat tow our Sierra down the road behind our motor home. The arms here are not going to be removable. They are going to be fixed, and they're going to replace our factory tow hooks and connect directly to the frame.Now, because of the way they're designed, we're not going to have to have a crossbar going from each arm, which is going to cut down a lot on the looks, and it's really not going to distract on the front of our truck. And the black powder coat finish is going to hide it nicely and blend in with the front of our truck, as well as provide a nice rust resistance. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 GMC Terrain, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster EZ-5 Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, Part Number RM-523184-5.So here's what our EZ-5 Base Plate looks like when it's fully installed. This is gonna allow us to hook up to our motor home or RV with a tow bar and safely get our Terrain down the road. What I really like about this base plate, is when we're not flat towing our Terrain, we can pull on this ring, rotate the arm, and it'll actually come all the way out, and then base plate is gonna be nice and hidden right there in the lower air dam, almost not visible at all. Now for reference purposes, you can see we're not gonna have too much trouble getting a hook on, but if you do have a rather oversized hook, you might want to keep that in mind.Now, this is for our braking system. It's not included. It's a break-away switch, but the bracket is welded to the back of our receiver brace there so we have a spot to mount it, as well as on the other side. more

Today on our 2016 GMC Terrain we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, part number BX1689. Here's what the base plate is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, everything's pretty well hidden. The holes for the arms along with the safety chain connection points, those are about all that's visible. Other than that, everything's pretty well hidden. It does come with a bracket for the break-away switch, which is mounted up right behind the license plate here. If you've got a supplemental braking system you will be able to mount that break-away switch in a convenient location. more

Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2015 GMC Acadia- Video

Today on our 2015 GMC Acadia we'll be taking a look at and installing the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms. Part number 523149-1. This is what it will look like once it's fully installed. We'll take our tow brackets, slide them in with the tab down, and rotate them out, that way the angle goes to the outside of the vehicle with the two holes on top, just like so on the other side. The first thing that we're going to do on the installation of our new base plates is go ahead and open up the hood so we gain access to all the fascia and trim hardware. We're going to need to remove this plastic piece here all the way across as well as this whole front bumper section here and disconnect the fog lights once we get down there as well. We'll just come around. You're going to have one here and so on and so forth across, totaling eight push pin fasteners. more

Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit Installation - 2015 GMC Terrain- Video

Today on our 2015 GMC Terrain we'll be installing the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit with removable arms, part number 523163-1. This is what your road master base plate will look like installed on your GMC Terrain. It has the quick disconnect arms here, easy access to your safety chain cables, so you can hook it up to your RV. Nice clean look here and it doesn't require any trimming. Pretty easy installation, you just got to take the fascia off, remove the bumper core, and bolt your new base plate into place. When you're not using it, it really gives your vehicle a nice clean look, not having a big bulky base plate sticking out, and you can remove your safety cables, or you just tuck them here behind your fascia and zip tie them. To start our install, we need to remove the fascia. To do that, we'll first raise the hood. There are eight fasteners that we need to remove here on the top side of our fascia. more
